Students from Adventures in Dance rock at the 2015 Denver Dancesport Jam Ballroom
Competition
Top coats and tails swirled past girls in glamorous gowns as the staff and students from Adventures in Dance gathered to compete in the Denver Dancesport Jam. Once every hair was in place, and every face was made up, students lit up the floor with all the dances that they had worked hard at.
Melvin Marcusson with Holly Collins were the first to hit the floor. They cut a rug in the silver senior American Rhythm dances. Melvin did a great job remembering all his routines for his Cha cha, Rumba, Swing, Bolero, Mambo and Samba. After lunch he took to the floor again and nailed his Silver American Smooth dances. He danced without a hitch his Peabody, Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot and Viennese Waltz. Frist place all day, Way to go Mel!
Joining Mel early in the day was Jessica Virgo with her teacher Craig Tomazin. They burned up the floor with their Silver American Rhythm dances. Jessica did her 5 rhythm dances Cha cha, Rumba, Swing, Bolero, and Mambo during the day placing all first. She danced again in the evening for the Silver Rhythm Multi dance and Scholarship placing first, second. Jessica has danced her best yet! I am looking forward to what she does next.
Late in the afternoon amateur couple Robyn Collins and William Hooker duked it out in the Silver Ballroom dance division with their teachers Holly Collins and Craig Tomazin. Robyn cleaned up with all firsts dancing with her teacher Craig Tomazin and won the Silver Ballroom Scholarship. William danced his best yet and took 3rd in the Silver ballroom scholarship. They then took to the floor together for the Silver American Smooth Tango and Viennese Waltz, followed by their standard Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot and Quickstep. After a quick costume change they came back and danced their Latin set, with the Cha cha, Rumba, Samba and Jive. This is the best they have danced yet. We expect great things from this couple.
Craig and I are very proud of how everyone danced. Each student achieved their personal goals and have set the bar a little higher for the next time. We are looking forward to doing this again next year.
