2015 Colorado Star Ball with Adventures in Dance

Colorado Ballroom Dance Competition Star Ball 2015

Every year we spend the third weekend in June dancing at the Colorado Star Ball, and this year was no exception. This was the first year that

it started on Thursday. So I packed my bags and headed out to the Westin Westminster on Thursday June 18th.

Thursday night kicked off with the Club dances. Melvin Marcusson has been preparing his hot club moves for this event. He took to the floor with his Merengue and took 1st. He then followed it up with the Hustle, Lindy hop, Night club two step, West Coast Swing. Mel ended with his Salsa, and came home with all 1st places.

Friday morning was American smooth Style. Robyn Collins and William hooker had all new routines they were looking forward to presenting. They competed against each other dancing with Craig and Holly. They danced the Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot and Viennese Waltz. Robyn beat Bill in all dances. Additionally they were finalists in the Silver Smooth Scholarship Event.

Saturday night was the Rising Star International Standard Ballroom competition. Craig and Holly enjoy dancing in this category. They took to the floor and swept around with their Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, and Quickstep. They were finalists and were thrilled to win a purse. As an added bonus Saturday evening we were treated to a phenomenal show by Victor Fung and Anastasia, the current world champions in the International Standard Ballroom style of dances.

Sunday was all international Standard and Latin. Melvin was the first to dance in the morning. He took to the floor and did a great job with his Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, and Quickstep. Robyn and Bill dancing with Craig and Holly competed against each other in the Standard Championship. Robyn beat Bill again and narrowly missed taking 2nd overall in the Silver Championship. In the afternoon Melvin came back to the floor for his Latin dances. He cleaned up with all first places in his Cha-Cha, Samba, Paso Doble, and Rumba. All in all a great afternoon.

Sunday night was the end of the whole event and showcased all the closed amateur two dances and the amateur novice dances. For the first time all weekend Robyn and Bill now had the opportunity to dance with each other. They took to the floor with the American smooth dances first. There were three couples dancing the Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, and Viennese Waltz. They stayed on the floor for the International Standard style and had two other couples they danced against in the Waltz, Quickstep, Tango, and Foxtrot. With baited breath we waited for their results. They took first in all dances. Later in the evening they went back out for the four Latin dances, they danced their Cha-Cha, Rumba, Samba and Jive. Robyn and Bill cleaned up at the end of the night with fore more first places. This was a great weekend dancing and enjoying time with friends and family.
