I love it when friends tell me about festivals that are unique and fun. Last year my friend Charles Gilliam told me about the Festival of Faerie in Lafayette. So when we were available on Saturday June 20th, I packed up the family and traveled to see the wee folk.
Robyn and I donned our wings and wands so we could blend in when we got the faerie festival. We arrived just after 10 am and were able to see the coronation of the new faery queen. The band struck up a tune and everyone sang the fairy coronation song.
From there Robyn and I strolled through the booths and looked at the fun wares. Dragons were popular, from a lawn dragon, a strolling dragon, and a hatch-ling, they were in abundance. We strolled up the street and saw the mermaid, who was encouraging little folks to fish. Further up we caught the sword fight themed on Tolkien history. We ambled on up the street and caught the coronation parade and Queen’s tea party. It was attended by lovely lads and lassies. Some fairies even slept in the shadows of flowers. We worked our way back down the street and caught the Leprechaun and mushroom magic show, simply enchanting. Stilt walkers stalked the streets and children splashed in the fountain. It was a fun festival for children of all ages.
