How to Dance the Reinlender Norwegian folk dance- a historically accurate cartoon princess dance from Frozen.
Do you love Disney movies? I do especially the dance scenes. After writing the history of each of the ballroom dances, I wondered what dances the cartoon princesses really did. So I did some research.
Today I explored the dances at the coronation ball for Elsa in “Frozen”. Disney wiki sets the film in 1780’s Norway. Early in the film they shown pieces of the Reinlender a Norwegian folk dance. Later when Hans catches Anna in the ballroom they break into a Viennese Waltz. The Viennese Waltz’s early form was the Volta, accepted only in the Elizabethan court, and banned in the French court. Viennese Waltz had its debut as a stage dance in Vienna in 1786, not becoming acceptable until 1807. For this reason I will focus on the Reinlender as a historically accurate “Frozen” princess dance.
