3 Dance Music Styles for Mardi GrasMardi Gras Gator musician

Don’t you love a great party? I know I do, and Mardi Gras is a colorful and lively party. Whether you are in the French Quarter or the streets of Littleton, music and dance accompany any Mardi Gras celebration. But what dances are associated with Mardi Gras? Let’s find out.

Mardi Gras music is drawn from ragtime, jazz, and Cajun/zydeco music. Each style is woven into the Mardi Gras celebration. Partiers march, dance and shimmy to these intoxicating rhythms.

There are several dances to ragtime music. Ragtime dances include animal dances like the Foxtrot and the Turkey Trot. You can also find one step dances like the Peabody and the Boston Waltz.

Jazz music is sexy and sultry, and so are the dances that can be done to Jazz. When the bands play, you cannot help tapping your toes.  Dances like the West Coast Swing, Night Club Two Step, and the Slow Foxtrot are great options to this style of music.

Native to New Orleans is Cajun and zydeco music. It is catchy and fun to listen to. Dances like the Mardi Gras Mambo, or Merengue are easily danced to Mardi Gras Dancerthese bands.

Wherever you are when you celebrate Mardi Gras, remember to dance like no one is watching!
