Ballroom Dance at the Colorado Country Classic 2017

Ballroom Dance at the Colorado Country Classic 2017Robyn & Bill Colorado counrty dance classic

What is ballroom dance doing at a country dance competition? All kinds of great things. Country dance arose out of ballroom dance and steals from it liberally. The two step is a variation of the collegiate foxtrot made popular by a Square dance group in the 1940’s.  It only makes sense to allow the predecessor to country dance a piece of the competition.

For two days preceding the Colorado County Classic, the Colorado Country Ballroom Challenge graces the floor. They invite ballroom dancers to compete in the styles of American and international Ballroom and Latin dance. All this is done while country workshops run in adjourning rooms, and dance vendors crowd the halls of the Doubletree Hilton Hotel in north Denver.

This was the first year Adventures in Dance sent competitors. Amateur couple Robyn Collins and William Hooker traveled north to dance their gold international ballroom and Latin dances. They burned the floor with their Cha-cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, and Jive. Then after a quick costume change, they danced their ballroom Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot, and Quickstep. They did a great job and took first in all dances.

This was a lovely experience for everyone. New students would find this event warm, welcoming, and not overwhelming. All and all a great starter competition forBill and Robyn Ballroom new students. We look forward to dancing there again.
