The humidity was so thick you could cut it with a knife. Amateur couple Robyn and William traveled with their coaches Craig & Holly to the coast of California for the dancesport championship. Descending to sea level from the mile-high city the day before was a breath of fresh air.
Teacher student placements
Early the morning of Saturday December 1 Robyn and William squared off against each other. In Latin Paso Doble William beat Robyn. But Robyn was not one to take this laying down. She came back strong beating William at the Jive, Viennese Waltz and the Tango. Both danced well working hard for their placements.
Gold & Novice Smooth
After competing against each other, they paired off for the American smooth division. They placed first in all dances for the four dance American Smooth Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz. In the novice smooth they took second in Waltz, and first in Tango and Foxtrot, to win the smooth title.
Next, they were in a large heat for the novice ballroom division. There were 14 couples vying to go on to the final round. Robyn and William danced well. We were proud of how they handled such a competitive floor.
Last of all they were up for the novice Latin competition. Robyn was sporting a new blue Latin dress that she had spent hours adding rhinestones to. They had all new open routines and did a great job with their new routines. We were proud of all that they accomplished. We look forward to going on to the nationals In April.
Day at Dickens fair
After all that hard dancing, our troop took a day off. We traveled into San Francisco to the Cow Palace to see the great Dickens Fair. We danced at Fezziwig’s dance parlor, dined on meat pies, and saw the shows at the Royal Albert Theater. William was able to sit and listen to the tales of Poe, while Craig was entertained by carolers. It was a delightful end to a great weekend of dancing.
