Teapot Racer How To
I love the creativity of the steampunk community. From Parasol dueling to Tea dueling they have the most fun toying with history. This year I was invited to check out the splendid teapot racing at Whimsy con. I could not pass up the opportunity to share this opportunity to put together a teapot racer.
Splendid Teapot History
Splendid teapot racing was organized by Countess Simone Montgomery, with the help of Captain Various Miscellaneous Bitsandpieces (Norm Riley). The whole idea was conceived to help Simone’s disabled friend participate in steampunk activities. It is designed for all abilities and the emphasis is on fun. This dynamic duo made the first course in Dunedin, New Zealand in 2014. The Countesses goal was to have a jolly splendid time for all ages and skills levels. It is about participation and including all. Since then teapot racing has been taking the steampunk world by storm.
What is a Teapot Race?
Here is Denver Co teapot racing is championed by Amy Griswold from Airship iron Opal https://www.facebook.com/groups/airshipironopal/ for Whimsy Con. Put simply, Teapot racing is remote controlled cars embellished with teapots. After surfing the Splendid teapot racing site, (https://splendidteapotracing.com/tag/teapot/ ) I could see why there are size limitations of no taller than 30 cm, wider than 30 cm, and no longer than 40 cm. You can find all of the rules here https://splendidteapotracing.files.wordpress.com/2016/04/teapot-racing-rules-2-1.pdf and how to organize a teapot race here https://splendidteapotracing.files.wordpress.com/2015/04/teapot-racing-organisers-guide.pdf
After reading all about Teapot racing, I thought I would build my own teapot racer. I named the project Ima, for I’m a Little Teapot. Then I went to my local hobby store to gather my supplies.
