Festival of Faerie 10th Annual

Located in the lovely land of Lafayette, the Festival of Faerie is a fabulous experience. Creative experts gather to share their talents and raise funds for the arts at Sanchez Elementary School. 2023 was their 10-year anniversary and no threat of rain was going to stop them!

Beginning outside of festival square faeries paraded into town to crown their queen. This year Spring form Heather After Cosplay was graced with the crown. The crowning was celebrated with song, followed by dancing.

Dance at the 10th Annual Festival of Faerie

After the crowning all the Faeries danced a traditional Turkish Branle. Holly from Adventures in Dance Club taught the friends of Fae folk the fun steps and claps. Following this she gathered the group for the Puss in Boots Paso Doble line dance. In honor of the mermaids, she taught the Samba Line dance to “Under the Sea.” For the scallywags and seafarers, Holly taught a line dance Tango to He’s a pirate. With all this great dancing they were ready to lose a shoe, so she did a Waltz line dance to “so this is love.”

At noon Catterfly and the Tribal Misfits Fusion Belly dancers took the stage. Clio the Catterfly had been the 2022 queen of Faerie. Her troupe flew in with a flourish of colorful scarves and entertaining routines.  The troupe of Tribal Misfits Fusion Belly dancers brought a bright spot to the festival stage.

It was almost a gloomy end with many hours of cloudy skies. When the clouds cleared Crixa, Orchid, and Blossom had a great time dancing in the Queen’s tent. It was the happiest rainless dance of the day.

Other Enchanted Entertainment.

Between dance segments talented musician Stace Johnson graced the stage. His expertise in songwriting and entertainment made merry of a grey and rainy day. He had everyone clapping and jumping to his jubilant tunes.

Next to his tent were face painters, vendors, and pixies tripping through the square. Next to the queen’s tent was the book faerie with books for all to read. Tomas O’Dreams, the leprechaun had magic and fun, with an interactive experience for children to explore. Many Fae came out at the end of the day to display their finery for the costume contest. All is well that ends well at the Festival of Faerie.
